The Prayer of the Lord

I'm sure many Christians do not pray the Lord's Prayer. Perhaps it is for fear that rote memorization will soon devolve into lifeless repetition. We must acknowledge that this is a possibility. At the same time, however, it is also true that lack of structure can lead to frustration. We can feel that we have so much to say but don't know how to put any of it into words.

At times like these, it is good to use written prayers. Even if we don't pray every single word, at least we have an outline. Of all the prayers we could pray, the Lord's Prayer is important because Jesus taught it to his disciples in the context of them asking him about prayer. If you would like a simple, yet informative book about the Lord's Prayer, I would recommend R. C. Sproul's book, The Prayer of the Lord.
